Made in USA

Subterra Max 1-1/4" SDR-13.5 HDPE conduit in orange, pre-loaded with 1250 lb mule tape so crews can pull cable straight away. Supplied on 96-inch reels of 8,000 linear feet for long, low-joint runs. The lighter SDR-13.5 wall suits open-trench and direct-buried installs, but is not rated for directional boring. American-made, ordered by the linear foot.

Description

Subterra Max 1-1/4″ SDR-13.5 HDPE conduit is the ready-to-pull pathway in Norvant’s conduit line, supplied in orange and pre-loaded with 1250 lb mule tape so crews can start pulling cable without first installing a pull tape. It ships on 96-inch reels of 8,000 linear feet, keeping joints to a minimum and letting crews cover long runs on last-mile and route builds. The SDR-13.5 wall is lighter and thinner than the SDR-11 variant, which makes it a cost-effective pathway for open-trench and direct-buried installs where the conduit is not subjected to the stresses of trenchless placement. Important: per PPI and Norvant terms, SDR-13.5 is not rated for directional boring or horizontal directional drilling, so specify the SDR-11 wall for HDD runs. As an American-made product ordered by the linear foot, it suits FTTH last-mile and broadband infrastructure programs where a pre-loaded pull tape saves a step in the field. It shares the Subterra Max conduit specification with the empty SDR-11 variant, so a build can mix both where different runs call for different walls. Confirm the current BABA and compliance status and MSRP with the product team before publishing, as the catalog record does not yet carry them.

Comparison

Norvant Design Innovation vs Standard Handhole Features

See how Tier 3 stacks up on capacity, lead time, installation, and compliance.

Design Feature

Why This Matters

Norvant Solution

Standard Market Offerings

Lid Security in Flood Conditions

Heavy rain causes vaults to flood, pressure buildup lifts lids into traffic or they float away

Auto-Latch System – automatic locking prevents lid displacement under pressure

Manual friction-fit lids that can dislodge; requires separate locking mechanisms or weighted lids

Ground Movement Protection

Freeze-thaw cycles and soil heaving push vaults upward, breaking seals and damaging installations

Flared Anti-Heaving Base Design – wider footprint resists vertical displacement from frost and water action

Straight-wall designs rely on weight alone; vulnerable to seasonal ground movement

Structural Strength

HDPE is lightweight but must withstand Tier 22 load ratings (33,750 lbs) without flexing

Ribbed Sidewall Engineering – internal reinforcement maintains structural integrity at lower weight

Smooth walls requiring thicker material or composite reinforcement to achieve same load rating

Working Space for Splicing

High-density fiber deployments need room for splice cases, slack storage, and future cable additions

25% Larger Internal Capacity at same price tier – future-proofs against network growth

Standard internal dimensions force premature change-outs as take-rates increase

Asset Location & Management

Field crews waste time locating buried infrastructure; asset databases become outdated

Designed for Locating Puck Integration – optional sensor enables GPS mapping and digital asset management

No provisions for tracking technology; relies on paper maps or technician memory
